COVENTRY: An Akron woman reported May 22 that while she was driving on Interstate 77 she argued with her boyfriend, who was a front seat passenger, and he said he would kill them both and jerked the steering wheel, causing the car to crash into a culvert. She regained control of the vehicle and drove the Canton man home. Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies signed warrants for his arrest on charges of felonious assault and criminal damaging. A Penguin Avenue man reported May 24 his landlord broke into his residence. Deputies learned the tenant had been evicted that morning and advised him to make arrangements to get his belongings. A man reported he argued with his brother while they were in his vehicle on South Arlington Road May 25, and his brother got out and kicked the vehicle door, causing damage. On May 27, deputies responded to a dispute involving neighbors on South Arlington Road, and advised the parties to have no contact with each other. Deputies spoke to the owner of a Kingsley Drive business May 27 after a neighbor reported an employee dumped trash on his property. Both agreed to a resolution. A vehicle abandoned outside a Manchester Road business was towed to an impound lot May 27. On May 28, en employee of a Portage Lakes Drive business reported her paycheck, which had been taped to a door, was stolen the previous day. A Wagoner Street man reported May 28 an increasing number of motorists have been driving on his property, causing turf damage. Deputies responded to a fight at a Portage Lakes Drive home May 28 and charged a resident with assault involving an Aurora woman, who declined medical attention. Deputies were called back to the residence and the intoxicated resident was transported to a hospital by EMS.

GREEN: A Mayfair Road woman reported an air conditioner delivered May 21 was stolen. An Akron man reported he lost his wallet at a Massillon Road gas station May 22 and received a package May 25 with no return address, containing the wallet and contents but minus $200 cash. On May 25, Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a disturbance at a South Main Street marina, where two men said the owner threatened them with a gun and fired a round into the ground. The owner denied owning or firing a weapon and refused to allow deputies to test his hands for gunpowder. Deputies were unable to locate a bullet or shell casing, but the owner was charged with menacing. A boat and trailer were reportedly stolen from a South Main Street location between May 25 and 28. A contractor reported May 26 a trailer containing numerous tools was stolen from a work site on Magnolia Lane the previous night. A vehicle abandoned in an East Turkeyfoot Lake parking lot was towed to an impound lot May 26. On May 26, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) conducted traffic enforcement in the construction corridor of Interstate 77 using OSHP fixed-wing aircraft and issued 28 citations for speeding more than 80 mph, with one vehicle traveling 103 mph in a 55-mph zone. That 29-year-old driver from Green was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, possession of marijuana and child endangering due to having a 2-year-old child in the vehicle. She was also issued citations for driving under suspension, reckless operation and speeding. Also on May 26, deputies responded to a report that a man was unconscious behind the steering wheel of a vehicle in a Massillon Road parking lot. They woke the man, who was disoriented and failed a field sobriety test. The Barberton man was charged with DUI and possession of marijuana found during a tow inventory of the vehicle. Deputies investigated the theft of a vehicle from a Venus Road residence the night of May 27. On May 28, deputies investigated a report that someone damaged gumball machines and left them in a parking lot at Boettler Park. A Georgia man reported six $100 bills were stolen from his room in an Interstate Parkway hotel May 28. Deputies investigated a road rage incident on Greenfield Drive May 28. A woman reported she was driving home when a motorist began tailgating her, pulled his vehicle in front of hers, stopped, exited the vehicle and began yelling at her and trying to open the door. She stated she drove home and he followed her and yelled at her father, who came outside, and threatened his life. The motorist sped away in a white Ford or Chevy diesel pickup truck. On May 29, deputies investigated the theft of a trailer from a Stake Drive site the previous night.

LAKEMORE: A Hidden Lake Boulevard woman called police June 3 to report being harassed by a neighbor. The caller said her neighbor made vulgar comments to her. Police spoke with both women, and they reportedly agreed to keep to themselves. Also June 3, police responded to the theft of no trespassing signs at a Lakeside Drive condominium association. An Akron man was stopped for a traffic offense June 4 and cited for drug possession when he was found with a small amount of marijuana.

NEW FRANKLIN: A Uniontown man was pulled over May 28 for having an expired license plate. Police smelled the odor of alcohol during the stop and the man failed field sobriety tests and a breath test. His car was towed and he was cited for driving under the influence. Also May 28, a North Street woman reported that her neighbor’s dog entered her yard and began chasing her. The caller said the neighbor’s dog tried to attack her dog and she had to hit the neighbor’s dog in order to get it to stop chasing her. Police saw the neighbor’s dog running in the street and into other yards while at the caller’s home. The dog’s owner was contacted and cited for having an animal-at-large violation. An Akron man was pulled over for a marked lanes violation May 28 and police saw a can of alcohol in the center console. A passenger claimed ownership of the alcohol and was cited for open container. A Manchester Road woman reported an ATV stolen parked next to her house overnight May 28-29. There were no suspects at the time of the report and police entered the ATV as stolen. A Doylestown man was observed speeding and running a stop sign on Vanderhoof Road May 30. The driver fled when the officer attempted to make the traffic stop, but eventually was stopped. The driver reportedly admitted that his license was suspended and that he was trying to avoid the officer. The car’s registration had been expired since April 6, 2020, and marijuana was found inside the car. The driver was cited for traveling 62 mph in a 45-mph zone, driving under a license suspension, expired registration, running a stop sign, and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A Barberton woman was stopped for a traffic violation at West Turkeyfoot Lake and Manchester roads June 1 and found to have a suspended license. The car was towed and the driver was cited for driving under suspension.

SPRINGFIELD: Police responded to a domestic disturbance on Massillon Road May 10. The caller reportedly told police her father and boyfriend had gotten into an argument, and the boyfriend left before police arrived. According to the caller and her father, there was no physical altercation, and the caller said she did not feel the situation would escalate if the boyfriend returned. Police were called to a domestic disturbance at a Springfield home May 11. A juvenile reportedly pushed and punched another person in the arm during an argument and was found to have warrants for his arrest for a previous domestic violence incident. The juvenile was arrested and taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center. Also May 11, a Krumroy Road woman reported two checks totaling $468 placed in her mailbox were stolen. She said she later saw a black Jeep hauling a trailer pull up to the mailbox. A heavyset woman wearing blue jeans reportedly got out and took the checks from the mailbox. She said she did not recognize the woman or the Jeep and police were unable to locate the vehicle in the area. An Akron woman reportedly entered a house on Tritt Avenue May 11, screamed and cursed at the resident and left. Police found the woman in a wooded area near Margaret Road and a K-9 was used to apprehend her when she refused to stop. The woman reportedly bit the officer while she was being handcuffed and a large amount of marijuana was found inside her backpack. She reportedly refused medical treatment and was taken to the Summit County Jail. A Farmdale Road resident reported her mailbox was destroyed in the early morning hours of May 12. She said she believes an acquaintance of her son caused the damage, but had no evidence of this. The son said they used to be friends but have had a falling out due to drugs. Also May 12, police arrested a Canton man for shoplifting at a South Arlington Road store when he reportedly took $884 worth of items from store shelves to customer service and tried to return them for a refund. A woman was taken to a hospital for evaluation May 12 after police responded to calls of a suspicious person on Short Way yelling at people and honking her car horn. Police responded to a fight at a South Arlington Road hotel May 12. A woman said her boyfriend assaulted her, leaving scratches and bruises on her arm and injuring her finger. Police were unable to locate the man and issued a warrant for his arrest. He was later found at the hotel hiding behind a shower curtain inside a bathroom and was arrested. A Kent man was cited for theft and trespassing May 12 when he tried to steal $36 worth of items from a South Arlington Road store. The man had been previously banned from the store. Police responded to a South Arlington Road store May 12 for a woman who had reportedly overdosed in the parking lot. The Doylestown woman was evaluated and released by EMS and police found a bag containing crystal-like powder in the woman’s possession. Hypodermic needles and other drug paraphernalia were also found, along with more white powder on a $20 bill. She reportedly told police the substances were laced with fentanyl. The woman was arrested for drug possession and her cellphone and cash were seized to check for possible drug trafficking charges. An employee at a cash advance store on South Arlington Road reported being robbed at gunpoint May 13. The employee said a man wearing all black clothing, a black beanie-style hat and a medical mask entered the store and told the employee he wanted to cash a check. He then reportedly presented a folded piece of paper in one hand and a handgun in the other and told the employee she had five seconds to give him money. The employee said she was behind a locked barrier of protective glass during the incident and was able to trip the store panic alarm. The man left on foot. Also May 13, a Barberton man reportedly resisted arrest during a traffic stop on South Arlington Road as police attempted to arrest him on a warrant out of the Akron Police Department. The man reportedly pulled away and ran from officers and refused to get into a police cruiser when he was caught. He began to comply when a Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived on scene and was later turned over to Akron police on the warrant. The Springfield Police Department additionally charged him for resisting arrest. A woman reported she was a victim of a road rage incident on Canfield Road May 14. The woman told police she drove to the police department following the incident and the other driver followed her into the parking lot. Police questioned both drivers but were unable to determine a primary aggressor. No charges were filed. The other driver was found with marijuana and a marijuana cigarette, both of which were confiscated for destruction. A driver was stopped on Canton Road May 22 for driving with one headlight. The driver showed signs of intoxication and reportedly said he was coming from a bar in Ellet. He failed field sobriety tests and a breath test and was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while impaired. Police stopped two bicyclists near Kubler Trail May 23 for riding without equipment required at night. One of the riders, a Chippewa Avenue man, reportedly gave the officer false information about his identity and was later found to have an active felony warrant out of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. A bag of crystal-like substance was found in his possession and he was cited for drug possession and turned over to sheriff’s deputies on the warrant. A Howard Lane resident reported someone slashed all four tires on his trailer May 26. The victim said he parked his trailer in his backyard in November and discovered the tires slashed on the day of the report. Police and Metro SWAT conducted a drug bust at a South Arlington Road hotel over the Memorial Day weekend after receiving reports of illicit drug activity at the hotel. During a search, fentanyl, drug paraphernalia and two handguns — one of which was reported stolen — were found in a room, and warrants were issued for the arrest of a 27-year-old Akron man.
